چکیده
Purpose The purpose of this study is to demonstrate and characterise a soft-tooled micro-injection moulding process through in-line measurements surface metrology using data-intensive approach. Design/methodology/approach A soft tool for demonstrator product that mimics the main features miniature components in medical devices microsystem has been designed fabricated material jetting technique. was then integrated into mould assembly on machine, mouldings were made. Sensor data acquisition including thermal imaging injection pressure sensing have set up collect each prototypes. Off-line dimensional characterisation parts also carried out quantify prototype quality changes after manufacturing cycles. Findings collection analysis methods presented here enable evaluation moulded real-time from measurements. Importantly, it demonstrated soft-tool temperature difference values can be used as reliable indicators quality. Reduction total volume cavity detected quantified 100 Data collected monitoring filling assessment cavity, providing about 90% accuracy prediction with relatively modest sensors technologies. Originality/value This work presents approach processes first time. overall results show product-focussed data-rich proved an essential useful way exploiting additive technologies rapid prototyping new introduction.

متن کاملInjection moulding of ultra high aspect ratio nanostructures using coated polymer tooling
Replication-based nanofabrication techniques offer rapid, cost effective ways to produce nanostructured devices for a host of applications in engineering, biological research and beyond. In this work we developed a method to replicate ultra high aspect ratio (UHAR) nanopillars by injection molding with failure rates lower than one pillar in a thousand. We provide a review of the literature in w...
متن کاملA Model of the Injection Moulding Process
This paper is concerned with the injection moulding process, in which hot molten plastic is injected under high pressure into a thin cold mould. Assuming that the velocity and temperature profiles across the mould maintain their shape, a simple steady state model to describe the behaviour of a Newtonian fluid during the rilling stage is developed. Various phenomena of the process are examined, ...
متن کاملLattice Boltzmann Modeling of Injection Moulding Process
Polymer injection in moulds with complicated shapes is common in todays industrial problems. A challenge is to optimize the mould design which leads to the most homogeneous filling. Current commercial softwares are able to simulate the process only partially. This paper proposes a preliminary study of the capability of a two-fluid LatticeBoltzmann model to provide a simple and flexible approach...
